Customizing QR Code Labels

Feature availability

Intro

This article provides instructions on generating printable, customized AirData QR code labels.

AirData QR codes can be linked to individual drones to provide a number of different functions.

These include tracking equipment location, logging item custody, and serving as a lost and found mechanism, among others.

You can read more about AirData QR codes in our  QR Codes for Equipment Management help article.

Customized QR code labels are available to AirData Enterprise subscribers with the  Asset Management Add-on.

Standard AirData QR code labels are available to all AirData users. A tool to generate generic QR code labels will be released soon.

Select Labels for Printing

1. To start customizing your QR code labels, head to:

app.airdata.com -> EQUIPMENT -> QR CODES -> Robust QR Code Template

2. You will be presented with a graphical representation of a physical asset label sheet.

Each slot on the label menu corresponds to a sticker on the physical label sheet.

Choose which individual label positions you wish to print QR codes on.

This feature can be used to print onto specific tags on a label and may be useful for customers who want to test QR codes or conserve labels for future printing.

Currently, AirData can generate QR code labels for the Avery 61523 and Avery 61525 asset tag label sheets.

These labels measure 3/4" x 1-1/2" and come in sheets of 40.

You can learn more about this format here: https://www.avery.com/templates/presta-61523

Other label sheet formats will be added soon.

Select Drone QR Codes

3. Assign QR codes to the selected labels.

You can do this by choosing a drone from the menu on the right hand side. If the drone has a QR code already assigned to it, that QR code will be added to the label.

If the drone does not have a QR code already assigned to it, you can select the “Auto assign a new QR code” option to automatically generate a QR code for that drone.

Select Custom Fields

4. You can add additional fields to the asset label that will be printed alongside the QR code itself.

Currently, AirData allows the following optional fields:

i) The name of the drone in AirData,

ii) The drone’s registration info.

Additional fields will be added in future updates.

If your organization has any additional fields you would like to include on your QR code labels, please let us know at [email protected]

Save Template

5. Click “Save and download PDF” to save the QR code label template.

You can also name the template and provide a description for it in the “Template notes”.

Saving a template will record the selected drones and QR codes, as well as the chosen label positions.

Download PDF and Print Labels

6. After a QR code label template has been saved, it will appear in the menu on the left hand side of the screen.

Click “Download PDF” to view the final PDF for printing.

The final PDF output will map onto the physical asset label sheet.

(The sample QR codes in this screenshot are not scannable).

Recommended Print Settings

For best results printing to Avery 61523 and Avery 61525 asset label sheets, we recommend the print settings below.
(Not all of these options will be available for all printer models).

1. Page Size: 8.5" x 11"
2. Page Scaling: 100% or Actual Size
3. Paper or Media Type: Labels, Heavyweight, Matte Photo, or Cardstock. If these are not available, the default setting of Normal/Regular paper will also work.
4. Print Quality: For glossy labels, choose Normal or Plain Paper.
5. Feeding Sheets: We highly recommend feeding one sheet of labels at a time into the printer.
