DJI Fly cropped flights on iOS

Feature availability

Please note the following known problem with DJI Fly when using an iPhone:

The flight times in DJI Fly do not match the times displayed on Airdata.

DJI Fly App AIRDATA

WHAT EXACTLY IS HAPPENING?

DJI is prematurely uploading flights from the Fly app to their cloud while the drone is still airborne, resulting in incorrect flight times being displayed on Airdata. Typically, the flights on Airdata will be cropped (shorter flight times).

To learn how to properly sync your flight logs using the AirData mobile app, please visit this help page. Also, please see below for how to prevent cropped flights with DJI Fly.

HOW TO PREVENT?

The iOS version of the AirData app is now able to synchronize your DJI Fly flights with your AirData account. Now that the AirData app will sync your Fly flights, it is no longer necessary for the flights to first be synced with DJI's cloud, which prevents the flights from being cropped.

To prevent your flights from syncing with DJI's cloud, please disable "Auto-sync Flight Records" in DJI Fly, which is located under "Profile" "Settings" "Sync Flight Data".

I believe this is also impacting Android devices. The majority of my flights are much shorter than actual duration, and missing most of the flight. In some cases, a single flight is logged as two separate flights with middle part missing.
In my scenario I'm flying from my home, so my device has a WIFI connection. I will validate by turning off the auto-sync and doing a test flight.

Hi James, thank you for bringing this to our attention and we will monitor the situation. I'd like to make a quick comment about your point of "In some cases, a single flight is logged as two separate flights with middle part missing". Because it's the flight app that generates the flight log, we have often seen multiple logs get created for the same flight if the connection between the drone and RC was lost during the flight. Perhaps you could take a look at the "Notifications" tab of the flight where multiple logs were created for weak signal or lost signal errors to see if this applies to your situation.

Best,
Trevor

Trevor, Thanks for following up. Good Point about the lost connection, I'll monitor to confirm. And as I mentioned, I'll do some test flights with auto sync on/off and document the results. You folks have a great service. Keep up the good work.

Trevor, I've made a few flights, each time, turning off the auto sync before flight, then syncing after. The entire flight sync's properly.
Yesterday I took a quick flight with auto sync enabled. On my phone (DJI Fly App) it shows the flight duration of 11 minutes. On the AirData website, it shows the flight duration of 5 Min. 15 sec.
Second flight yesterday looks like it sync'd. 19 min on the app and 18 Min 11 sec on the website.
Today's flight. 9 min on the DJI Fly App, and 2 min 5 sec on the AirData website.
So it seems that Androids is impacted as well.

Google Pixel 5A 5g Android 12

I'm happy to provide any additional data if it helps.

Hi Jim, thanks for the thorough testing. We'll be sure to make note of this issue affecting Android devices as well. However, to avoid the cropped flight issue completely, we recommend using our AirData UAV mobile app to upload your DJI Fly logs. When the AirData app is installed on your device and auto-sync is enabled, the app will upload the logs directly to your account, bypassing DJI's servers – therefore, preventing the cropped flight issue. Please see the following help pages on uploading DJI Fly flights using the AirData app:

If using an Android device: app.airdata.com
If using an iOS device: app.airdata.com

Best,
Trevor

Trevor,
I do have the AirData UAV App installed. I checked my settings and they are the same as the screen shot in the link.
Do I need to keep the DJI Fly App auto sync disabled?

Hi Jim, we do recommend disabling auto-sync in DJI Fly if you are using the AirData UAV mobile app to upload your logs.

I keep getting this issue, I use two devices to fly and so I prefer to allow dji fly to share data between these devices. How can I prevent truncated flight data records being uploaded. I manually uploaded with the hd sync app and it reported that it had uploaded x records with 2 errors. I repeated the process after checking that the dji fly app had uploaded the latest flights which it had. The last 2 flights were both truncated. Is it possible to delete and upload the flight again to have the full data?

Hi Paul, if you prefer to sync the flights with DJI's servers so you can see your flights on DJI Fly from within both devices, we recommend disabling "Auto Sync Flight Records" before you fly in DJI Fly (image above), and enabling it again after you fly, as this will ensure that the entire flight is sent to DJI's servers.

If you would like to manually upload the complete flight for a truncated flight on your account, you can retrieve the flight from your phone/tablet and upload it here: app.airdata.com

Thanks for your reply. I needed to check the details on a couple of flights to check some warnings but the flights were truncated. I could not find a way to upload the truncated files so did not realise it was possible. I have since found a site that allows me to review my flight records that concerned me at the time. I will hold off on purchasing a subscription at this time I will try this again in the future. Regards Paul

Is it possible to merge 2 flights in AirData?
When flying extended missions that require replacing batteries, I would like to log it as one continuous flight.

Hello Sean,

Thank you for writing with this question.

Currently, AirData does not support the functionality to merge flight logs directly within the platform. However, we understand the importance of seamlessly documenting extended missions and battery replacements as one continuous flight.

To better assist you with this matter, could you please reach out to our support team at [email protected]? Please provide additional details such as the dates of the flights you wish to merge. Our dedicated support team will be more than happy to explore potential solutions or workarounds to address your specific requirements.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
Teresa
